Get a brighter smile that you will be proud of in person and in photos! Tooth whitening – also known as bleaching – is a simple, non-invasive dental treatment used to change the color of natural tooth enamel and is the perfect way to enhance the beauty of your smile and your confidence!
At our office, having whiter teeth is often the number one aesthetic concern of our patients. Thankfully, there are a number of ways to whiten teeth.
The most popular method is using personalized trays with an at-home tooth whitening system. Our office also offers ZOOM!, an easy, effective, in-office method! Both treatments are highly effective and will leave you excited with your new look!
It’s important to keep in mind, that tooth whitening is not permanent. Touch-ups may be needed every several years – especially if you smoke, drink coffee, tea, or wine regularly.
What does tooth at-home whitening involve?
At home treatments for tooth whitening typically requires two visits. At the first appointment, impressions, or molds, will be made of your teeth to create perfectly fitted trays.
At your second appointment, you will try on the trays to ensure proper fit – adjustments will be made if necessary. The trays are then paired with a special whitening solution either twice a day for 30 minutes or an hour before bed for a couple of weeks depending on the degree of staining and desired level of whitening. It is completely normal to experience tooth sensitivity during the time you are whitening your teeth. This sensitivity will subside shortly after you have completed your bleaching routine.
What does tooth in-office ZOOM! whitening involve?
The complete procedure takes less than an hour, but a regular teeth cleaning is recommended prior to the actual Zoom teeth whitening session. The procedure begins with a short preparation to cover the lips and gums, leaving the teeth exposed. The dentist or dental assistant then applies the Zoom hydrogen peroxide whitening gel, which works together with the Zoom light to penetrate the teeth and break up the stains and discoloration. The gel remains in place for 15 minutes while the light is activated. During this time, you can relax, or listen to music.
The gel is applied for three 15-minute sessions of light activation, for a total treatment time of 45 minutes. Individuals with a strong gag reflex or anxiety may have difficulty undergoing the entire procedure. Immediately afterwards, a sensitivity-reducing fluoride paste-gel is applied to the teeth.
You will be given a Zoom home-use touch-up kit that includes custom-fitted whitening trays. Follow your dentist’s instructions for when and how to use this touch-up kit.
